Opuscula Biden advertisements Mimic Trump promos: Old promises revisited

TRUMP AND BIDEN ARE KEEPING tv stations and the networks in the black — and that has nothing to do with the so-called “Black Lives Matter” rage .

We are inundated by political commercials from city council candidates to Biden and Trump.

The First Tuesday in November cannot come soon enough.

 

I AM AMUSED with Biden’s campaign ads.

They appear to be rewrites of Trump’s 2016 advertisements. I would have thought Biden’s handlers could do better, be a little original.

Biden’s Build Back and Build Back Better sounds a lot like Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA).

Biden: When we spend American taxpayers’ money, we should use it to buy American products.

Trump not only promoted “Buy USA” he also forced U.S. companies, e.g., Ford, to being back plants taken across the border. Before the Chinese virus, unemployment in the US was 3.6% In 2015, when Biden was vice-president, unemployment stood at 5%. The virus-related unemployment is not “party sensitive.
As an aside, when Biden’s former boss needed a bus or his campaign, he bought it not in the U.S. but in Canada!

Biden wants to support American workers. To that end, as a senator, he supported the Geo. W. Bush plan to build a fence along the U.S.-Mexican border². Who else voted with Biden?
Barbara Boxer, Barbara Mckulski, Chuck Shulman, Dianne Feinstein, Hillary Clinton, Richard Durbin, among others³. In the House, Nancy Pelosi voted No.⁴ Unlike the Senate, the House vote was mostly by party line.

Californian Pelosi, to her credit, or discredit, consistently votes for illegal immigration.

Biden wants to “enhance national security” by reducing the nation’s dependence on China.

Trump already is distancing the country from China; he’s raised tariffs to make American products more competitive. Trump also is closing Chinese consulates accused of spying on U.S. technology leaders and the U.S. government.

Biden wants to invest in small businesses — with whose money he prefers not to say.

According to Business.com⁵, some of Trump's plans have helped small businesses.
1. Tax policy reform: The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, reduced both the individual income and corporate tax rates, and doubled the standard deduction. More than 34 percent of respondents said their tax liability decreased under the law, while more than 21 percent plan on increasing capital investments as a result.
2. Association Health Plans: The Trump administration moved to offer employers a choice of AHPs in June 2018. These plans essentially allow small businesses to buy into group health plans together and are intended to offer small businesses a cost-effective way to offer more competitive benefits.
3. Trade policy and tariffs: The Trump administration's approach to trade policy has included the levy of have had no significant impact.

Biden wisely does not mention race or misogyny in his advertisements. In both these cases, he lives in a glass house. Trump also is known as a sexist. For the record, so was JFK and his brother Teddy. That, of course doesn’t make it “OK,” but it is interesting that when a Democrat is a cheater, the media is silent.

No good choice

Between Biden’s apparent senility and Trump’s lack of discretion, Americans are faced with a lose-lose situation in November, assuming that both “presumptive” candidates make it to Election Day.

If Trump keeps Pence as his VP, America will remain tilted to the right. Pence’s one failure since 2016 is not being able to rein in Trump’s bombasity. Trump can best be described as a person who has knee jerk reactions.

On the other hand, Biden has shown there are time when he has no reaction even when a reaction is appropriate.

If Biden is elected, based on his appearances^{6, 7, 8}, his vice president will be acting president, if not formally but effectively. Depending on who the Democrats foist on Biden will determine how far left the country will tilt.

There does not appear to be civility nor compromise on the political horizon.

Opuscula Trump tweets: Stupid — Yes Racist — No

FOUR “WOMEN OF COLOR” and their friends are claiming that President Trump’s stupid “go back where you came from” tweet is racist.

The tweet is stupid because of the four, only one is a naturalized American; the others were born in the U.S.

But racist? Only in the minds of the women and their friends.

DONALD TRUMP is many things. Some good. Some appallingly stupid.

Many — perhaps most — of his “social media” comments are stupid.

They are knee jerk — the emphasis is on “jerk” — reactions.

The Democrats and a few Republicans have baited him from Hillary’s non-conciliation speech after she lost the election until today.

Trump is not one of the “Old Boy” politicians and the professional politicians may feel endangered. He shoots from the lip, as the expression goes.

Editorial cartoonists have a field day with Trump Tweets.

Justifiably.

Before he took office there was, at least by this scrivener, hope that someone, anyone would rein in his instant, ignorant responses to his attackers.

That hope was dashed and continues to be trampled upon each time Trump tweets.

As president, Trump HAS (tried) to honor his pledge to the average American.

He promised to build a wall on the Mexico-U. S. border — then stupidly insisted against all evidence that Mexico would pay for the wall.

Never mind that Trump’s predecessor in the White House gave Mexico funds to help it build a wall on Mexico’s southern border. Funny how no one in Congress or the media complained about that.

He promised to bring back jobs to the U.S.; he did that.

He is trying to deal with China and other countries that have taken advantage of this country’s stupidity in foreign trade, a situation he inherited from previous administrations, both Republican and Democrat. He seems to think that if Country A levies a 60% tariff on Made in America products, the U.S. should levy an equal tariff on Country A’s products.

Plus, it encourages manufacturers to move at least some production to the U.S.

Assembled in America It seems to work. No thanks to Trump, but a number of Japanese auto makers have set up production lines in the U.S. The auto makers would have pulled out if the arrangement was not profitable for them. Ford brought back F-150 pickup assembly it moved to Mexico from Virginia where Ford put many Americans out of work.

In my 75-plus years I never have seen attacks on a president as vicious and continuous at the Democrats' attacks on Trump.

The Republicans behaved, for the most part, civilly to Trump’s predecessor despite his attempt to ruin the nation in eight years.

I do not hold with polls. I don’ trust them.

I have created polls that, with a select group of responders, can give me the results I want.

The only “poll” in which I have any confidence is the one answered in the privacy of the voting booth, and at times even that is suspect.

Don’t suggest that outsiders, e.g., Russians, tried to influence the elections. U.S. politicians, including Trump’s predecessor in the White House, have mucked about in other nations’ elections, at times using force to remove an elected official with whom Washington was unhappy.

Trump won that poll, at least that is what the electoral college determined. Personal opinion: there is no reason for the college to exist in this age of instant communication and accurate vote counts.

Trump does himself — and the country — no favors with his knee jerk, off-the-cuff remarks, all too often based on ignorance. Trump needs someone to fact check his comments before going public.

It is one thing not to be “politically correct,” but it is another to be stupidly incorrect.

America needs a strong president, and it has that in Trump.

American does NOT need a buffoon as its face to the world.

At the same time, the leftists in both parties need to tone down their oft-unjustified attacks on the president; they are only setting themselves up for similar abuse from conservatives when they eventually regain control of the White House.

What America needs is not a “good 5¢ cigar”¹ but a good dose of civility.

When I was a young airman I was told that no matter how much I disliked the colonel (and I did dislike the colonel), I was saluting the rank, not the man.

The same should apply to the presidency; the leftists may — and by their actions obviously do — hate the man, but they should show respect for the office.

Mocking a politician is a great American sport, but the constant, unrelenting attacks on Trump go far beyond mere mocking.

If the leftists would back off, even a little, perhaps we would have fewer stupid tweets from the Oval Office.

We are showing the world politics at its worst. We should be ashamed.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP keeps “shooting himself in the foot” by what appear to this scrivener as knee-jerk reactions.

Had he NOT spoken so harshly about the Federal judge in Washington (state), and had he zipped is lip while the government’s appeal was in progress, maybe the three Federal judges reviewing the earlier judge’s decision might have overturned the initial decision.

But “his mouth runneth over.”

IN MY OPINION, I think the president’s executive order was correct and legal. I am not a lawyer or Constitutional scholar, but I do know a little U.S. history.

FDR (a) interred Japanese Americans and, to a far lesser extent, German-Americans and Italian-Americans during WW 2 and (b) refused nearly 1000 Jews escaping Hitler’s murderers from landing on U.S. shores, claiming there might be nazi spies among them.

Trumps immediate predecessor in the White House banned all people from more predominately Muslim countries for six months — three months longer than Trumps ban on all refugees from only seven Muslim-dominated countries.

Does anyone recall street protests on the ex-president’s action?

Trump’s rhetoric often is akin to pouring gasoline on a smoldering fire. For the president, it not is WHAT he says — or “tweets” — but HOW he expresses himself.

In a presidential way he told Boeing that a new presidential plane was too costly. Boeing renegotiated the price. Unlike some other “wins” claimed by the president — notably convincing auto makers to keep production in the U.S.; GM’s president is reported as saying she planned to keep jobs here, anyway — Trump seems to be preparing for new negotiations with other governments: China — a country that “owns” the U.S. through loans and the cheap, government subsidized products; Cuba — a no-win situation as Cubans in the U.S. are divided: to open trade or to embargo Cuban goods; Mexico — the U.S. ALREADY (under an agreement with Trump’s predecessor) is paying for a wall to protect Mexico from incursions into the country across its southern border.

While the United Nations hardly is a country, Trump may follow Congressional majority opinion and reduce the U.S.’ financial support.

He is doing what he promised to do before the election.

But sometimes ….

His twitter slam on Nordstrom — and other stores following Nordstrom’s lead — for dumping daughter Ivanka's clothing and accessories line may be justified, but the questions are: (a) was it necessary and (b) does Ivanka need daddy to “whip” the retailer into line. Nordstrom claims the (suddenly, post-election??) the woman’s label wasn’t selling?

Looking at Nordstrom locations, I suspect that the store really DID note a decline in Trump sales … its customers hardly are the “despicables” Hillary Clinton so disparaged. Interestingly, Ms. Trump resigned her position with the line before Nordstrom “dumped Trump.”

Neiman Marcus, as well as the online stores Belk, Jet, and ShopStyle, all have distanced themselves from her brand. Kmart and its subsidiary Sears, later joined the “dump Trump” parade.

Some other retailers, while not “dumping Trump” stopped promoting the line.

While the Trump line may have been banished from several “name” stores, her products still can be found at a number of stores.

Trump needs to learn to “pick his battles.” There are times to simply ignore things. Trump twitters often seem like Chicken Little screaming “The sky is falling.”

As president, he must learn that he need NOT offer his comments on anything and everything — often his tweets are based on knee jerk reactions and lack a basis in fact.

I can understand Trump Twitters over a proven biased leftist media, but he needs to show some restraint.

Some of his tweets inflame when inappropriate; some of his tweets, e.g., those about Nordstrom et al and Ivanka, sound like a whine. He might have done better by inviting the retailers’ CEOs to a sit down at Trump Towers or, if they prefer, at the White House.

Free advice to President Trump: Pick your battles. Say (tweet) a little less and consider your words carefully.

You are the president now; act accordingly.
