IT IS A QUANDARY, caught between the hammer and the anvil (rock and hard spot).

Who gets vaccinations against the Chinese virus (and its mutations)?

Seniors or working people.

Hard choice.

 

The case for protecting seniors before working age people is the seniors’ general inability to recover from the virus.

Senior, more than working age people are more likely to be less resilient and to have more “underlying” health conditions.

On the other hand, retired seniors can sequester in their homes. If they must go out — and most “must” go out — for food and necessities, to doctors’ offices, to government offices (e.g., post offices, Social Security), the trips usually are specific and brief.

This assumes the seniors have an income from pre-paid sources (e.g., Social Security, retirement plans, securities).

Many merchants have “early hours” for seniors, but the merchants’ doors are open for anyone who wants to enter. Besides, not all seniors are early risers. Again, a quandary.

The case for working-age people has two prongs.

One, these people must have an income.

They have bills to pay, families to (help) support.

The work they do is sometimes more, sometimes less, necessary.

The workers interact with seniors from time to time.

Another plus for “sticking it to seniors” is that many seniors do volunteer work with younger folk.

Mentoring, tutoring, generally volunteering at schools, libraries, and similar venues. (As much as their help is needed in medical environments, the danger may be too great even for those who have been “stuck.”)

Even if seniors are prioritized, younger people — including teenagers and, possibly, pre-teens — with “underlying conditions” are supposed to be inoculated early.

Step up

When I was a young enlistee (c 1960), I was introduced to “shot lines.”

Borrowing from Henry Ford’s production line experience, the recruits walked from medic (corpsman) to medic, each medic inoculating the recruit with one of the many medicines needed to assure the recruit’s health.

Later, the medics put down the needles and syringes and picked up “guns” to inject more people faster.

In order to immunize more people faster, rather than have people come in and be seated, let those who can walk, walk to a medic, receive the immunization, and then go to an observation area for 15 to 30 minutes (to assure there are no adverse reactions). Geezers, such as this scrivener, can “roll up” with a walker, rollator², or mobility scooter.

At least those people on rollators or mobility scooters have their own seats. 😁

Opuscula Interim POTUS Doing exactly What Trump said

INTERIM PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN’s plans to combat the Chinese or Wuhan SARS Covid-19 virus seem to be an echo of President Trump’s announced, and now in action, plan.

Expect the igNoble Committee to give Biden and future president Kamala Harris-Emhoff the Nobel Peace Prize for doing what Trump started.

The Committee gave a Prize to Obama after a few months in office as a means of supporting the man, albeit he did nothing to deserve the prize. It refused to give President Trump the prize, even though under his administration “normalization” agreements were made between Israel and several Muslim countries — and more signing on — and arranged a peace agreement between two warring European nations (Serbia and Croatia).

 

UNLIKE THE DEMOCRATS who loudly proclaimed that “Trump is not MY president,” whether or not Biden-Emhoff won fairly — this scrivener has serious doubts — Biden “won” the election and Emhoff soon will move into the Oval Office. He, and later she, will be my president; I’m an American citizen (who voted), but I am — unlike the “progressive” Democrats — acknowledging that, by hook or by crook, the Democrats won the White House and I will not treat these people as the “progressives” treated Trump from before the primaries to his final days as president.

I will not lower myself to the name-calling and abuse the “progressives” heaped on Trump.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, managed “normalization” agreements between several Muslim nations and Israel.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, started troop draw-downs from conflict zones.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, increased sanctions on Iran, a nation that threatens America, Israel, and many Muslim nations.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, reduced funding to UNRWA which is infamous for its corruption, nepotism, and support of terror.

ON THE OTHER HAND

Obama brought the Muslims’ the destabilizing “Arab Spring”

Obama failed to slow Iran’s race to develop a nuclear weapon and delivery system.

Obama on his last day in office gifted millions to the PLO/PFLA to continue its attacks on Israeli civilians.

Obama’s Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton) allowed a planned “spontaneous” attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that resulted in the deaths of four Americans. (This despite consulate personnel asking State to send more protection.)

Obama did nothing to reduce the number of Americans in danger in foreign lands.

BUT Obama received the Nobel shortly after moving into the White House.

It is worth noting that the incoming, albeit probably interim, president was Obama’s VP, a trusted confidant and counselor.

Recap

Trump arranged normalization and peace agreement. Obama encouraged PLO/PFLP intransigence.

Trump eliminated funding to a terror-supporting, badly managed UNRWA. Obama supported it.

Trump drew down troops in Afghanistan. Obama did nothing.

Trump forced NATO to pick up more of the tab. Obama kept paying the moochers.

Seems to this scrivener the Nobel Committee ought to hang its collective head in shame.

Opuscula Conservative’s Embarrassment

TRUE CONFESSION: I CONSIDER MYSELF a more or less conservative. I still walk on the street side of the sidewalk when I stroll with my Spouse. I say “Yes sir” and “Yes ma'am” in response to a question, regardless of the inquisitor’s age, sex, or race, and I think my home is my castle. I believe in law and order and I am ashamed by rogue cops and bullies in general.

I normally vote a “split ticket,” making my mark for the candidate I consider most qualified for the job, regardless of sex, race, or political party.

But some people who try to pass as “conservatives” embarrass me.

This morning I saw a fellow with a TRUMP baseball cap telling a “reporter” that “no one is going to make ME wear a mask.”

My immediate reaction cannot be recorded in this family blog.

My second reaction was to call the guy a (potential) murderer.

I have seen too many people with MAGA or Trump baseball caps going around bare faced. (I remember when “bare faced” was followed by “lie” or “liar.” It seems appropriate for these pseudo-conservatives.)

I blame these scofflaws on Trump who, for a very long time, paraded around sans mask.

Worse, he encouraged disregard of social distancing.

I would expect that of a “progressive” who feels he, or she, is “entitled” to do whatever pleases them whenever it pleases them.

But a person claiming to be a (political) conservative?

Never.

Admittedly, I am a geezer and I have “underlying health issues.”

My First Born is a Law Enforcement Officer, a LEO, and while he no longer is a beat cop, he has friends who are on the street.

OK, so you prefer the anarchy of the so-called Black Lives Matter rioters.

Why would you want to infect your fellow rioters — regardless of your political position — with a disease that can prove fatal?

I use the term “Black Lives Matter” with the caveat that too many people — black, white, brown, and “other” — are using a black’s death as an excuse to destroy America and as a springboard for anti-Semitism.

Floyd’s death was unfortunate. The cop who had his knee on Floyd is charged with murder and, hopefully, will receive a fair trail and, if found guilty, be sentenced accordingly.

That won’t bring Floyd back.

Neither will rioting and anarchy.

Last night in Dade County (Miami) Florida, a black infant was shot by another black person. Elsewhere in the county, more blacks were shot and killed by other blacks. All in ONE NIGHT. Unfortunately, this is a fact of life (and death) in many black communities. Where are the protests against blacks killing blacks?

Florida now has the unfortunate distinction of having — after California — the second highest rate of COVID-19 — the Chinese virus, Trump is right — in the country.

Dade County leads the state.

Dade County has passed emergency measures making it a crime to go out in public sans a mask. The first offense, if found guilty in a court, is a $100 fine. The fine increases if/as the scofflaw continues to disregard the law and his, or her, fellow humans’ health.

I’m sure the “progressives” will find my suggestion on how to handle these potential murderers offensive, but rather than give a citation to appear in court, take the offender into custody and place the offender in a cell with others who also refuse to wear a mask. Let them infect each other.

Political stupidity.

When the Chinese virus first got our attention, the “leaders” of Dade County took over a public building and set it up to handle masses of infected citizens and non-citizens (South Florida became a preferred destination for infected New Yorkers and Florida’s {Republican} governor did nothing to stop the influx of carriers). When the threat of mass hospitalizations subsided, the building was closed.

Now, area hospitals are at near capacity and the same “leaders” — following their peers in Chelm¹ — allow the facility to remain shuttered.

A true conservative NEVER would endanger another person’s life in such a callous, cavalier fashion.

Granted, the masks can be uncomfortable — they are poorly designed and hurt the ears — and they do make it harder to breathe, especially in summer’s heat, and they can muffle the voice.

Masks need to be washed or replaced frequently.

BUT, masks and “social distancing” DO reduce transmission of the virus.

Masks are a small price to pay to be socially responsible.

Unconstitutional? That may be a matter for the courts. In the meantime, it IS against the law in Dade County to go about sans face covering. More than that, it is a violation of common sense.

If you insist on going about bare faced, take off your MAGA and TRUMP hats. Stop embarrassing true conservatives.

Opuscula Alfred E. Neuman Is the only decent Candidate in 2020

THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION leaves me with three choices:

1.  Donald John Trump

2.   Jos. Robinette Biden Jr.

3.  Alfred E. Neuman

Of the three, two are unworthy of my vote.

The third is a cartoon character from EC Comics’ Mad Magazine.

 

 

Trump lost my vote when he opened his mouth at his rally in Tulsa OK.

There was absolutely NOTHING “OK” in Oklahoma.

Trump’s answer to the rising number of positive tests for the Chinese virus: Stop testing!

Given the ease at which the virus spreads, testing is the surest — albeit admittedly not with 100% accuracy — means of identifying carriers. Carriers can be isolated and treated.

I did not see one — NOT ONE – person wearing a mask at the Trump rally.

I also did not see any evidence of “social distancing.”

Since their “leader” refuses to wear a mask — despite several White House staffers who tested positive for the virus — it is not surprising that the Oakies at the rally followed their leader.

I do NOT plan any trips in the near future to Sooner State.

He threatens to being the GOP convention to Jacksonville FL.

Jacksonville has a huge Navy presence. I suggest he order at least one of the Navy’s hospital ships to tie up at Naval Station Mayport.

If the convention is typical of political conventions of both major parties, the proverbial “drunken sailors” should remain in quarters until the drunken conventioneers leave town.

Trump is, in my opinion, a disgrace.

His tweets are provocative and insulting.

His foot-in-mouth gaffes are without either number or redeeming social value.

He needs a script writer and someone to make certain he follows the script.

He HAS tried to keep his campaign promises. The Democrats have thwarted him at every turn.

On the other hand, working for POTUS is a revolving door. Trump apparently only wants sycophants; he reminds me of the Hans Christian Andersen story of the Emperor's New Clothes — tell me what I want to hear or, to borrow from the Queen in Louis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, Off with his head!

Is this the best we can do?

If Messrs. Trump and Biden are the best America has to offer, it is no wonder that the nation is rapidly becoming a laughingstock.

It did not start with Trump, although he has certainly added fuel to the fire. His predecessor did more damage to America’s image than anyone previously. Ms. Clinton’s lies as Secretary of State and post-election antics, coupled with the constant attacks by a far-left Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, along with the mutterings of “The Squad” of anti-American racists have farther reduced America in the eyes of the world.

 

I’m Mad about Alfred E.

This will be my 18th presidential election.

In ever previous election, I voted for the person who I though could best serve the country. The nation has survived this long despite some presidents who this scrivener is glad served only one term. The last good president, at least in my opinion, was Harry S Truman. Some others were “OK”.

Presidential sex scandals don’t raise eyebrows in Europe where sexual peccadilloes are commonplace.

But stupidity.

Senility.

These are things that disgrace the nation.

No matter who wins in November, America loses.

For the first time in my voting career I will vote for an imaginary candidate: Alfred E. Neuman.

Alfred E. was a creation Harvey Kurtzman and was introduced to the world via William M. Gaines’ MAD magazine in 1952. He's as qualified as either Trump or Biden. He is at least 35 years old. He was “born” in the U.S.

He even has a campaign slogan: “What, Me Worry?”

I think maybe Trump has taken that slogan and applied it to the Chinese virus, since neither he nor his followers don masks or maintain social distancing” Presidents should set a positive example.

Trump does not.

On the other hand, Biden may forget how to get to the Executive Office from the presidential bedroom.

For America, it is a lose-lose election.

No matter who wins, America loses.

U.S. Memorial Day, 2020 The danger passed & All things righted God’s forgotten The Soldier's slighted

TODAY, MAY 25, 2020, IS MEMORIAL DAY in the United States.
Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember, to honor those men and women who gave their lives so we — and this goes beyond America’s borders¹ — can enjoy our freedoms.
It is not a day (only) for picnics and barbecues.
It is not a day (only) for parties where no one remembers those who gave their all.
It is not a day (only) for shopping.
It used to be a day to visit cemeteries to recognize the dead.
There are no sirens.
Cars do not stop and people do not pause in their purpose.
We do not honor those who gave their lives for us as those in younger countries do.

We do not remember; perhaps we do not WANT to remember.
 
 
ACCORDING TO A NEWS REPORT, Arlington National Cemetery on the Lee estate Masks, social distancing and other safety precautions have all become a part of the solemn rituals and pageantry at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as the near daily funerals that still take place in the cemetery.
The new reality: Only 10 family or friends are allowed graveside. As few troops as possible perform funeral honors. Distance is kept, and masks are worn.²
Many cemeteries are simply closed due to the Chinese virus.

That may not be politically correct, but it DOES acknowledge the undeniable truth that the virus originated in China and was exported from China. It also notes that China just happens to be offering Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and medical gear to the highest bidders.

 
 

A touch of history

Memorial Day was established as Decoration Day after the Civil War.³
The video, one of several from the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) does not state if any Confederate soldiers are buried on the Lee estate. Until 1900, no Confederates were buried at Arlington. Now there is a section set aside for these soldiers.⁴
According to the DC by Foot⁵ website, Technically, the few hundred Confederate soldiers from the Civil War should not be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, per army burial regulations. It is a United States military cemetery and these soldiers, for the most part, did not serve in the United States military. Though not a stop on our guided walking tours of Arlington National Cemetery due to the distance, there is a section for Confederates buried at Arlington.
In the beginning of burials at Arlington, Civil War veterans from the union were buried amongst freed blacks and Confederate soldiers without much distinction between them. As years past and Arlington became more and more associated with the honor of our military, Union soldiers, both those who died during the war and veterans who died later, were given more care to the location and upkeep of their graves and headstones.
Confederate graves in government cemeteries in the North languished for want of care and upkeep. Southern support groups were not allowed to maintain the decrepit graves. On Decoration Day, the precursor to modern Memorial Day, it was forbidden to decorate Confederate graves.
 
Ask anyone what happened on 15 February 1898.⁶
Ask anyone what happened on 7 December 1941.⁷
Ask anyone what happened on 11 September 2001.⁸
It is unfortunate that we have such short memories that only — and this is a “maybe" — 9-11 is remembered.

It used to be that those who paid the ultimate price were honored by the media.
I confess I am a comics fan; I regularly follow a handful of comics on the internet.
I expected to see many comics acknowledge Memorial Day. Only two did, and only one paid homage to the veterans.
 

 
As with Veterans Day, not only are graves in military (and other) cemeteries decorated with flags, but many older Americans remember buying, and wearing, paper poppies sold by the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary.⁹
Admittedly, 2020 is an unusual year. Many Americans still are sequestered at home or, if they journey forth, they are (or should be) encumbered by face masks. Maintaining “social distancing” also intrudes on our social life.
Visiting cemeteries is pretty much out of the question unless the cemetery allows a “drive through” where cars are allowed in but passengers are prevented from exiting the vehicle.
We have seen nothing like this since the mis-named Spanish Flu of 1918. As with the current Chinese virus, the “Spanish” flu also originated in China and killed more people than were killed in combat — all sides — in World War I, “The Great War.”¹⁰

Memorial Day 2020

IF THE INFORMATION ON THE WEB that is spreading as fast as the Chinese virus is correct, a number of people in past and present administrations failed the American people.

They were, and are, derelict in their duties.

Those who are proven be derelict should be charged with, at a minimum, involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of thousands of people worldwide.

The operative word in the foregoing sentence is PROVEN.

 

 

ACCORDING TO “THE INTERNET,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, who some claim is “the nation's top expert in infectious diseases"¹ allegedly said, before cameras in 2017, that “there will be a challenge in the coming administration (Trump’s presidency) in the area of infectious diseases, both chronic infections diseases … also there will be a surprise outbreak” (See VID-20200420-WA0049.mp4)

The Gateway Pundit² also quotes Fauci speaking at Georgetown University on 11 Jan 2017.

How could Fauci make such a prediction more than two years before the Wuhan disaster?

 

President Trump Will Be Challenged By a “Surprise Global Disease Outbreak,” Gateway Pundit²

 

According to several sources, in addition to those already cited, Fauci allegedly

• Managed to shut down a U.S. program working on viruses on the theory that there was no need for the program — it couldn’t happen here.
• He violated Federal law and contracted with the Chinese to research the virus.
• He managed to get the research in China funded for only US$3.7 million during the Obama administration.

Joan Swirsky, writing for Review America³ and other sites, prepared four questions, all of which have the same answer. The questions:

1. Which person, foreign or American, predicted three years ago, in 2017, that President Trump would be challenged by a "surprise global disease outbreak"?
2. Which person, foreign or American, wrote de facto love letters (actually emails) to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton through her lawyer Cheryl Mills, saying that he loved ole Hillary "more than ever"?
3. Which person, foreign or American, said that the collapse of the American capitalist system as a result of the coronavirus plague would be "inconvenient"?
4. Which person, foreign or American, said on January 21, 2020, that the coronavirus "was not a major threat to the United States" and also on January 23 downplayed the virus's potential impact on the U.S.?

If you guessed that the correct answer to all four questions was Dr. Anthony Fauci , congratulations.

Fauci’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) official biography⁴ states he has been director of the National Institute if Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. His NIH career began well before 1984.

 

Given Fauci’s prominence in high visibility infectious diseases (HIV/AIDs, Ebola) and his role at NIAID with responsibility for extensive research portfolio of basic and applied research on infectious and immune-mediated illnesses, and his (in)famous remark at Georgetown University (ibid.), and other remarks (e.g., that the collapse of the American capitalist system as a result of the coronavirus plague would be "inconvenient"?) it would seem appropriate for someone to vet Fauci before retaining him in his position.

Bottom line: While Fauci — IF even just part of the foregoing is true — has at least indirectly caused the deaths of thousands worldwide, but has severely damaged this country and its trading partners’ economies, the Trump administration also is liable for leaving Fauci in place.

Granted, — and again if it is proven — that Fauci violated Federal law and moved dangerous research to China and funded it under the Obama administration, research that brought Covid-19 to the world, the doctor should be held criminally liable and punished severely.

Again, if what Fauci said in 2017 (there will be a surprise outbreak of a serious infectious disease) failed to get anyone’s attention in the current administration, someone needs to resign for failing to do due diligence. Fauci, while not a presidential appointee, should have been “encouraged” to give up his position at the NIH.

It would seem the only way Fauci could have known what to expect for 2020 in 2017, was to have been receiving information on development progress of what became Covid-19. There may be another explanation, but given the information before me today, it seems unlikely.

A Bobblehead Of Dr. Fauci Will Help Pay To Produce Masks For Health Workers⁵

(EXCERPT) CNN contends that “Dr. Anthony Fauci, (is) the nation's top expert in infectious diseases.”

The 7-inch Dr. Fauci bobbleheads cost $25 and are available for pre-order. They are expected to ship in July.

A portion of each sale will go toward helping produce personal protective equipment for health care workers on the front lines of the battle against the coronavirus.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum will donate $5 to the American Hospital Association for every Fauci bobblehead sold to raise money for the 100 Million Mask Challenge.

Opuscula Isolate, Sequester. Quarantine

I HEAR PEOPLE SAYING “Now I know how Anne Frank felt” hiding from the nazis for 761 days in the Secret Annex.

Today we have a plethora of ways to talk to people around the globe. We even can, with the right tools, see them face-to-face.

Anne Frank lacked those tools.

Her world was the “Secret Annex” and the seven other people who shared it with her.

 

 

THE CHINESE VIRUS, as President Trump correctly identifies it, has changed the lifestyle of most of us.

There are some, the entitled generation who go about pleasure as usual, knowing IF they become infected, the likelihood that they will survive with only minimal discomfort is great.

Never mind that they may, through their cavalier, hedonistic, attitude, infect others — both the very young and the elderly. “Not my problem.”

CONFESSION

I hate telephones, but I realize they are a “necessary evil.”

For most of my 70-plus years I have communicated in writing. I used to have a good “hand” and, frankly, I was proud of it. My words? Always room for improvement.

For several decades I have used email to share what I know with people whom I hope want to read what I write.

But mail — “snail” or electronic — is not the same as a face-to-face conversation. It’s great for “CYA” situations, but — as with the telephone — you cannot see your correspondent’s face as what you wrote is read or as a reply is communicated..

Since I have (and have had) a computer for many years — OK, many computers over many years; designed obsolescence in action — I have had applications that allow me to see and talk to people around the globe.

Skype, before it as MS Skype, for awhile.

Now Facebook’s WhatsApp.

Google's DUO – a company that obsoletes applications almost as fast as it acquires them.

Zoom.

Some friends and family prefer WhatsApp; great on iPhone or Android “smartphones,” but not so good on a computer — it does text OK and images transfer, but on the computer users cannot see the other party/parties.

Zoom works on “smartphones” and the desktop; it seems popular with businesses although it offers a free version geared to the individual.

Bottom line: today even being home-bound, a person need not be isolated.

For several years I worked from my home office and communicated with 42 remote sites in 17 different states and never — never — traveled from my house.

Of course when the Internet Service Provider (ISP) crashes, everything on the desktop is out of service, too. The mobile phone is another story for some things.

By and large, however, today’s sequestered individuals still have access to “The World.”

They can read news blogs — the media’s veracity may be questionable, but it is there to read — they can call family and friends, even their elected officials who may, or may not, be responsive. If there is a window, they can gaze out as they communicate electronically.

This is not Anne Franks’ world.

Sequestered or quarantined — call it what you will — will not prevent anyone from reaching out.

Unless the isolation is in a hospital or similar setting where communications tools may be banned from isolation areas for the patient’s protection. Some diseases can be transferred to patient property that cannot be sanitized without being ruined. Most cellphones, tablets, and computers would not survive an autoclave session.

Isolation related to the Chinese virus is only “semi-isolation.”

People still can go out to buy food; delivery people still can deliver. But, except for necessities, a walk around the block is about the maximum distance to wander.

Since this was keyed, residents of my area are confined by executive order to their yards — if they HAVE a yard. Pity the apartment dwellers.

In Israel, police will arrest people who go more than 100 meters (that is about 330 feet) from their door.

This is not Anne Frank’s isolation.

 

Stay home

According to Florida’s governor — who may very well be a one-term governor — about 190 airplanes arrive in Florida every day. Many are from New York-New Jersey-Conneticut, an epicenter of the Chinese virus.

Florida, particularly south Florida, already has hundreds of cases of the disease.

Florida is scrambling to get enough test kits to test Floridians — never mind the folks from New York and similar locales.

The governor claims that all passengers will be tested — “temperature tested” one guesses — and then told to go into “a 14-day self-quarantine or isolation period.”

Editorial opinion: FAT CHANCE!

Floridians already see 20-somethings flaunting the laws on the supposedly closed beaches.

Who cares if the young people infect others; they are — but maybe not — immune from any serious illness.

Never mind the burden their excursions to Florida put on the state’s ability to protect its citizens health and, frankly, their wallets as its Floridian’s tax dollars that will fund testing (with or without promised assistance from the Federal government).

Floridians’ advice to anyone getting on a plane, train, bus, or even a private automobile: STAY HOME

If the governor really wants to protect the citizens, he needs to close the borders.

Winter is over.
