THE HEADLINE MAY BE A little “wishful thinking,” but by all accounts, what is about to be suggested is feasible.

MULTIPLE STUDIES, including by the federal government, come to the same conclusion:

Pay attention to students’ behavior.

Who needs to pay attention?

• Parents
• Teachers
• Fellow students
• Medical personnel (pediatricians, family doctors)

Be aware of any changes in a young person’s behavior.

There is moodiness, of course, but there are other “red flags” that the person's character is changing.

• Increased time on the Internet and a demand for privacy when on the ‘Net
• A change in friends and an unwillingness to have new friends meet parents/guardians
• Interests in violent actions, particularly cruelty to animals and defenseless children
• Class room participation and behavior — homework on time? Test scores as before?
• Appearance; any major changes in clothing style or personal appearance, e.g., uncombed hair where it once was combed

I am not a lawyer and while I would LIKE to suggest that parents and guardians look at web sites and “social media” their children visit, I’m reasonably certain the ACLU or other such organization would claim “parental snooping” is a violation of a child’s civil rights. (But doesn’t killing another person violate THAT person’s right to life; his or her civil rights?)

It may “take a village” to raise a child; it certainly takes a “village” of concerned parents/guardians, teachers, friends, and others with an opportunity to observe the child. Coupled with “If you see something, say something,” maybe the number of school shootings can be eliminated or at least reduced.

The same advice applies to young adults as well (and a few older adults, too); perhaps the number of drive by shootings could be reduced if the shooter’s friends, co-workers, et al, would say something to SOMEONE — preferably the cops who probably cannot do anything until a crime is committed; maybe Section 8 incarceration for mental evaluation.

Locally, the friends and relatives of drive-by shooting victims hit the bricks demanding that the attacks stop, but few DO anything — Hear No, See No, and Speak No evil. And innocent bystanders, often toddlers, continue to be murdered.

Black on black crime doesn’t bring out Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr. and Jesse Louis Jackson . Not enough national tv face time, perhaps.

Opuscula Black activists: Where are they When needed?

I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF THE COUNTRY, but south Florida has had a number of black people murdered recently.

Not by cops.

Not by non-blacks.

All the murders were blacks killing blacks.

When a white murders a black several faces can be expected to be seen on the tv news.

I term these people “tv activists.”

These people never show their faces when a white person is murdered by a white person, nor do they appear when a white or Latino is murdered by a black person.

Perhaps non-black lives don’t matter.

Likewise, no one sees the founders of the Black Lives Matter movement when a black person is murdered by another black.

Do black lives matter only when the person taking the black life is a non-black?

There is some things wrong with tv activists and Black Lives Matter (BLM) folks.

It is wrong to ignore black on black crime.

It is wrong to ignore black on non-black crime.

It is wrong to be solely focused on the black issue.

Murder is not about color or lack thereof.

Likewise drive-by shootings.

Ditto shootings of innocent bystanders — such as the 12 year-old boy wounded apparently by a wild shot.

While guns in criminals’ hands is the problem, guns themselves are not the problem. Neither are the liberals’ favorite whipping boys: the NRA and conservatives.

If the gun wasn’t available, a knife or blunt object will do.

Criminals like guns because they can harm from a safe distance.

While it is not the problem for either the tv activists or the BLM founders, it is a black problem. Blacks are not the only “owners” of the problem, but locally they are the most frequent perpetrators and victims.

The problem is not helping the police get the criminals off the street.

No one seems to see anything, no one seems to know anything.

A person is injured or murdered and no one has anything to tell the cops.

Omerta¹ apparently is not just for the mafia any more.

If the tv activists and the BLM leadership really want to help blacks, they need to visit the areas — not just south Florida but criss-cross the country — to encourage their followers to work with the police to help rid their areas of criminals OF ANY RACE. They also could work with the police to help develop a level of trust with the people. People who don’t talk to the police soon find the police don’t ask them for help. That’s a loose-loose situation for all concerned.

With all the crime — murders, rapes, shootings to name a few — the tv activists and BLM leadership need to be active; come out from wherever they are and drum up support to help end the crime, no matter who commits the act.

Come out, come out, wherever you are.

Where are they Loudest voices disappear When criminal is black

 

A black lawyer enters a university library and starts shooting; wounding three people before committing "suicide by cop."

Black children and young adults shoot other black children and young adults.

Black on black violent crime is rampant in all major metro areas of the U.S.

But you don't see Al Sharpton, Jessie Burns (alias Jessie Jackson), or Barack Hussein Obama railing against blacks who commit crimes, violent or otherwise.

But if a white person insults a black person or acts violently against a black person, our heroes are both visible and vocal.

The other day a black man, a graduate of Florida State University and a graduate of a Texas law school, a practicing attorney, walked into an FSU library with a semi-automatic pistol and pockets full of extra ammunition and started shooting, apparently at random targets.

There is some suggestion that the shooter was deranged. Silence from the trio of "rush to condemn" leaders.

Black on black violent crime is rampant; there is not a day that a black person is not attacked by another black person, often the attack is with a gun and often there seems no reasoning behind the attack. Drive by shootings are all too common; innocent children - kids who have yet to reach school age - are wounded by wild shots from automatic weapons.

But the voices of Jackson, Obama, and Sharpton are quiet.

Maybe the daily events are not as newsworthy - that is to say, not as likely to get the trio as much ego air time on the tv news (and rehashing of same ad nauseam).

But let a white person shot a black person and suddenly there is a great gnashing of the teeth and wailing even before any evidence is available to explain WHY the incident occurred. Never let an absence of facts get between one of the trio and a tv camera.

It's a bit like the "Palestinians" in Israel. An Egged (Israeli bus company) hangs himself and the rock throwers hit the streets and the knife wielders go after Jews at prayer, never mind that even a "Palestinian" doctor witnesses the bus driver's autopsy and agreed that the cause of death was suicide.

I am NOT condoning white-on-black or Jew-on-"Palestinian" crime; I'm not condoning crime period.

I am criticizing the trio of mouths - they make Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali seem like a silent Cistercian monk by comparison - who seem to limit their comments to those issues that get the most tv time.

Since black-on-anyone crime is, alas, not a novelty, there is no tv fame to be gained by railing about the violence. (Likewise, "Palestinian" attacks on Jews in Israel usually are ignored by the UN and EU and misreported in the media, but let an Israeli act against a "Palestinian," then the world takes umbrage.)

I don't see the trio of mouths taking to their soap boxes when a homosexual is abused, nor do I see Jackson and Sharpton standing on courthouse steps in support of illegal - let's not play semantic games and call them "undocumented" - aliens.

Not enough tv cameras around to tempt they preachers. (Obama can get the cameras on a whim; the selectively used perks of the office.)

FOR THE RECORD, I think Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali still is the greatest boxer of modern times. Class act.
