Obama vs. Trump

Good for the goose
But not for the gander

LEFTISTS AMAZE ME. I CANNOT BELIEVE they are so ignorant of history.

They seem infected with a monkey disease — they can neither see nor hear; but then the liberal media tends to hide anything that might upset the leftists’ bigotry.

The cause du jour that has the left picketing airports and seaports is a NINETY DAY — 90 days only — ban on immigration form seven countries known to export terrorism: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen.

According to Brietbart, President Trump is not suspending visas from countries his team selected, they are simply suspending visa approval from countries the previous president selected. Additionally, Trump is suspending ALL visa applications from those countries – nothing to do with Muslim applications.

Is this “anti-Muslim”? How can it be anti-Muslim since there are at least 47 Muslim-dominiated countries, and almost no country sans a Muslim population.

According to Town Hall, the previous president signed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act as part of an omnibus spending bill. The legislation restricted access to the Visa Waiver Program, which allows citizens from 38 countries who are visiting the United States for less than 90 days to enter without a visa.

Outside groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and NIAC Action — the sister organization of the National Iranian American Council — opposed the act, the bipartisan bill passed through Congress with little pushback.

At the initial signing of the restrictions, foreigners who would normally be deemed eligible for a visa waiver were denied if they had visited Iran, Syria, Sudan or Iraq in the past five years or held dual citizenship from one of those countries.

In February 2016, the Obama administration added Libya, Somali and Yemen to the list of countries one could not have visited — but allowed dual citizens of those countries who had not traveled there access to the Visa Waiver Program. Dual citizens of Syria, Sudan, Iraq and Iran are still ineligible, however.

The Act still is in force.

Aljazeera notes in a headline that Six other times the US has banned immigrants and adds in a sub-head that Donald Trump's 'Muslim ban' is not the first time specific groups or nationalities have been blocked from the US.

Aljazeera lists the other times bans have been imposed.

Republican President Chester A. Arthur, 1882, signed the Chinese Exclusion Act. The act banned "skilled and unskilled laborers and Chinese employed in mining" from entering the US for 10 years. Chinese already in the U.S. were prohibited from citizenship.

Republican President Theodore Roosevelt, setting the tone for his Democrat cousin, signed a bill banning anarchists’ immigration in 1903. The act - also known as the Immigration Act of 1903 - codified previous immigration law and, in addition to anarchists, added three other new classes of people who would be banned from entry: those with epilepsy, beggars, and importers of prostitutes.

During Democrat President Franklin Delano Roosevelt three and a half terms in office, as millions of people became refugees during World War II, Roosevelt argued that refugees posed a serious threat to the country's national security. Drawing on fears that Nazi spies could be hiding among them, the country limited the number of German Jews who could be admitted to 26,000 annually. It is estimated that for most of the Hitler era, less than 25 percent of that quota was actually filled.

In one of the most notorious cases, the US turned away the St Louis ocean liner, which was carrying 937 passengers, almost all of whom are thought to have been Jewish, in June 1939. The ship was forced to return to Europe, where more than a quarter of its passengers are thought to have been killed in the Holocaust.

The U.S. Congress passed, overriding President Harry S Truman’s veto, the Internal Security Act of 1950 - also known as the Subversive Activities Control Act of 1950 or the McCarran Act - made it possible to deport any immigrants believed to be members of the Communist Party. Members of communist organizations, which were required to register, were also not allowed to become citizens.

Democrat President Jimmy Carter cut diplomatic relations with and imposed sanctions on Iran and banned Iranians from entering the country.

Under Republican President Ronald Reagan, the US Public Health Service added Aids to its list of "dangerous and contagious" diseases. Senator Jesse Helms' "Helms Amendment" added HIV to the exclusion list.

In 1987, the US banned HIV positive persons from arriving in the US. The previous Democrat president lifted it in 2009, completing a process begun by Republican President George W Bush.

So far, the leftists’ protests reportedly have been sans violence; at least the media has not reported any criminal activity. Peaceful protests ARE “the American way.” Rioting, such as engaged in by Hillary’s henchmen, is not.

Still, those taking to the streets with their signs and whines must be ignorant of their own president’s actions or perhaps it is OK for a liberal to trample the civil rights of people with whom they disagree. The leftists I know won’t listen to, or read, any opposing point of view and, based on their current behavior, don’t know U.S. history.

Unlike many of his predecessors, the incumbent is attempting to keep his campaign promises.

If the leftists could just LISTEN and get the whole story before hitting the street they probably could save a lot of shoe leather, cardboard, and markers.

It’s too easy to believe half truths and outright lies; no thinking required.
