(a) the Abraham Accords carrots “disappear”

(b) The sticks the PLO/PFLP and Hamas feared are replaced by America’s open wallet

(c) Iran is free to develop a nuclear arsenal to use against Israel, the U.S., and Iran’s Muslim neighbors

(d) China is given free access to American technology

 

QUICK What is the difference between the U.S. giving money to Israel and giving money to terrorists?

1. Israel is an ally, not a terrorist; just ask the U.S. State Department, no friend of Israel.

2. Israel is obliged to “Buy American” — to spend U.S. dollars to prop up the U.S. defense industry; a gift with not just a “string,” but a “hawser.”¹

3. The PLO/PFLP and Hamas use the NON-REFUNDABLE dollars to teach hate, to buy war materiel from Iran , China, and Russia — the U.S. enjoys zero ROI.

 

Basically, Biden & Friends are busy UNDOING everything positive that Trump accomplished.

Biden’s master had a problem with former Israeli prime minister Netanyahu. Netanyahu is gone (but Biden’s master remains coaching from the wings.)

Perhaps Biden’s plan is to encourage Iran’s bomb building and convince the PLO/PFLP, Hamas, and Hezbollah that Trump was just a bad dream; they can go back to doing what their charters demand: the destruction of Israel — with America’s blessing.

Since Israel primarily uses Made in America weapons, the U.S. military-industrial complex will have a live proving ground for its products. No Americans soldiers will be put in the line of fire. A win-win for Washington.

With the U.S. Congress controlled by “woke” Democrats, Biden’s folly goes unchecked.

Trump may have been a bull in a china shop and his tweets were often embarrassing to those who supported him, but he DID accomplish a great deal toward world peace; he did restore the U.S. to a position of strength.

Biden is destroying everything Trump accomplished; he is trying to make 2016-2020 “disappear” as if they never happened.

 

THE QUESTION Will the Abraham Accords survive Biden, Harris-Emhoff, and the sycophants surrounding them.

INTERIM PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN’s plans to combat the Chinese or Wuhan SARS Covid-19 virus seem to be an echo of President Trump’s announced, and now in action, plan.

Expect the igNoble Committee to give Biden and future president Kamala Harris-Emhoff the Nobel Peace Prize for doing what Trump started.

The Committee gave a Prize to Obama after a few months in office as a means of supporting the man, albeit he did nothing to deserve the prize. It refused to give President Trump the prize, even though under his administration “normalization” agreements were made between Israel and several Muslim countries — and more signing on — and arranged a peace agreement between two warring European nations (Serbia and Croatia).

 

UNLIKE THE DEMOCRATS who loudly proclaimed that “Trump is not MY president,” whether or not Biden-Emhoff won fairly — this scrivener has serious doubts — Biden “won” the election and Emhoff soon will move into the Oval Office. He, and later she, will be my president; I’m an American citizen (who voted), but I am — unlike the “progressive” Democrats — acknowledging that, by hook or by crook, the Democrats won the White House and I will not treat these people as the “progressives” treated Trump from before the primaries to his final days as president.

I will not lower myself to the name-calling and abuse the “progressives” heaped on Trump.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, managed “normalization” agreements between several Muslim nations and Israel.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, increased sanctions on Iran, a nation that threatens America, Israel, and many Muslim nations.

Trump, who was not even considered by the Nobel Committee, reduced funding to UNRWA which is infamous for its corruption, nepotism, and support of terror.

ON THE OTHER HAND

Obama brought the Muslims’ the destabilizing “Arab Spring”

Obama failed to slow Iran’s race to develop a nuclear weapon and delivery system.

Obama on his last day in office gifted millions to the PLO/PFLA to continue its attacks on Israeli civilians.

Obama’s Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton) allowed a planned “spontaneous” attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that resulted in the deaths of four Americans. (This despite consulate personnel asking State to send more protection.)

Obama did nothing to reduce the number of Americans in danger in foreign lands.

BUT Obama received the Nobel shortly after moving into the White House.

It is worth noting that the incoming, albeit probably interim, president was Obama’s VP, a trusted confidant and counselor.

Trump arranged normalization and peace agreement. Obama encouraged PLO/PFLP intransigence.

Trump eliminated funding to a terror-supporting, badly managed UNRWA. Obama supported it.

Warp Speed

YOU MIGHT NOT BE A “TRUMPER,” but as president he usually kept his promises.

He promised “warp speed” for the development, testing, and distribution of a vaccine against the Chinese virus.

He delivered.

Could Biden or Harris-Emhoff done better? They DID claim they could have delivered a vaccine in record time, but neither was POTUS so it was all “just talk.”

 

TRUMP’S PLAN WAS for the military to deliver the vaccine. While Army General Gustave Perna, chief operating officer for the Defense Department's Operation Warp Speed, is supposedly in control of vaccine distribution, civilian resources are being used to transport and inject the vaccine.

When I was a young lad in the flyin’ corps, the Air Force took innoculations seriously and “shot up” hundreds of airmen every day.

This was before the “gun” came into use; each injection was with a new syringe and needle. The medics had to be quick.

The Air Force had its new recruits line up — EVERYTHING was in a line — an as we moved forward, a medic had his “weapon” in hand.

The medics did not come to us; we came to the medic.

We did not sit down — no reason to sit since we were advancing at a good speed.

We did not get boo-boo bandages, either.

Wipe (alcohol) on, stick, wipe (alcohol) off and keep moving.

Same situation for small pox vaccinations.

In fact, before the vaccinations were healed, we were back for a second round of “preventive medicine.”

I told the guy in front of me that the medic would stick him in his vaccination. He didn’t like that idea. The medic missed the vaccination, but when MY turn came, his “aim” was better. I never felt the needle.

Later, working at an Air Force hospital (Orlando AFB, c 1960), we did the same thing when mass inoculations were required.

Efficient.

Fast.

Warp speed.

Minor changes

Now, being a senior citizen who moves with a “mobility scooter,” I get to sit as I wait in line for my vaccination. (Yes, Virginia, I will get vaccinated as soon as it becomes available to normally healthy geezers.)

I see no reason why military medics (“corpsmen” to sailors and Marines) should not give the injections. They are pros. (Never let a doctor give an injection; most rarely do this and are out of practice.)

Let those of us who are “mobility impaired” and in scooters or wheelchairs pass by seated medics. Those who are ambulatory may walk past standing medics.

It is FASTER if the “patient” comes to the medic than the way it is being done by civilian nurses now.

The above is NOT a knock on the nurses and technicians administering the vaccine. They are skilled and, by all accounts, doing excellent work.

This IS a knock on the process where the needle pusher goes from patient to patient, even those lucky enough to be fully mobile (e.g., other critical care staff).

Although Trump allowed Pfizer to sell Made-in-the-USA vaccine to other countries before all Americans had a chance to be vaccinated, there are (at last) two other vaccines in the pipeline.

When these become available, and all the critical personnel (medical staff, cops and fire “personnel”) are inoculated, then perhaps the POTUS will “call out the Guard” (or encourage governors to do so) for mass vaccinations “the military way.”

Step right up.

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S NIECE is just now accusing her uncle of mean and nasty things. Maybe illegal things, too.

Question: Why did she wait until a few months before the November election?

Think about it.

 

The language in this entry may be offensive to some.

The niece, Mary L. Trump, didn’t make such claims before the 2016 election. Why now?

If all Trump’s transgressions happened long ago, why wait until August 2020 to hit the media outlets?

Is she simply pimping her book?

I first heard of this a few days ago, being enthralled by Sleepy Joe and Kamala Emhoff and their version of America now and in January when, assuming Kamala is elected — I doubt Sleepy will be aware of the event or if he is, get the swearing-in performed sans another gross gaffe, his forte — the far left will begin “rebuilding” the country.

Some of the anarchists already are tearing down the country; extreme leftists taking over the streets of some cities and towns, surely so Biden et al can “rebuild, better.”

Given the timing of the book, it would seem that the niece is in the Democrats’ pocket.

The Times reported that All County Building Supply & Maintenance was a "sham company" formed in 1992 and owned by Barry, Donald Trump, their siblings, and a cousin. All County Building Supply & Maintenance reportedly paid for work performed at Fred Trump's apartment buildings; those apartment buildings then reimbursed All County Building Supply & Maintenance, but fraudulently added extra money to those reimbursements. Tax experts reportedly indicated that because All County "performed no real work, the transfer of money through the corporation was essentially a gift that evaded the 55 percent tax in place at the time". Its address was the Manhasset, New York, residence of John Walter, Fred Trump's nephew. In a follow-up article, The New York Times reported that the money illicitly earned by All County was split by the Trump siblings.

In October 2018, as a result of the publication of this investigation, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance began a review of the fraud allegations against Barry and her siblings.

Trump's lawyer, Charles Harder, said the original Times story was false. "There was no fraud or tax evasion by anyone. The facts upon which the Times bases its false allegations are extremely inaccurate," he said in a statement last fall.

IF THE INFORMATION ON THE WEB that is spreading as fast as the Chinese virus is correct, a number of people in past and present administrations failed the American people.

They were, and are, derelict in their duties.

Those who are proven be derelict should be charged with, at a minimum, involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of thousands of people worldwide.

The Gateway Pundit² also quotes Fauci speaking at Georgetown University on 11 Jan 2017.

How could Fauci make such a prediction more than two years before the Wuhan disaster?

• Managed to shut down a U.S. program working on viruses on the theory that there was no need for the program — it couldn’t happen here.
• He violated Federal law and contracted with the Chinese to research the virus.
• He managed to get the research in China funded for only US$3.7 million during the Obama administration.

Joan Swirsky, writing for Review America³ and other sites, prepared four questions, all of which have the same answer. The questions:

1. Which person, foreign or American, predicted three years ago, in 2017, that President Trump would be challenged by a "surprise global disease outbreak"?
2. Which person, foreign or American, wrote de facto love letters (actually emails) to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton through her lawyer Cheryl Mills, saying that he loved ole Hillary "more than ever"?
3. Which person, foreign or American, said that the collapse of the American capitalist system as a result of the coronavirus plague would be "inconvenient"?
4. Which person, foreign or American, said on January 21, 2020, that the coronavirus "was not a major threat to the United States" and also on January 23 downplayed the virus's potential impact on the U.S.?

If you guessed that the correct answer to all four questions was Dr. Anthony Fauci , congratulations.

Fauci’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) official biography⁴ states he has been director of the National Institute if Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. His NIH career began well before 1984.

 

Given Fauci’s prominence in high visibility infectious diseases (HIV/AIDs, Ebola) and his role at NIAID with responsibility for extensive research portfolio of basic and applied research on infectious and immune-mediated illnesses, and his (in)famous remark at Georgetown University (ibid.), and other remarks (e.g., that the collapse of the American capitalist system as a result of the coronavirus plague would be "inconvenient"?) it would seem appropriate for someone to vet Fauci before retaining him in his position.

Bottom line: While Fauci — IF even just part of the foregoing is true — has at least indirectly caused the deaths of thousands worldwide, but has severely damaged this country and its trading partners’ economies, the Trump administration also is liable for leaving Fauci in place.

Granted, — and again if it is proven — that Fauci violated Federal law and moved dangerous research to China and funded it under the Obama administration, research that brought Covid-19 to the world, the doctor should be held criminally liable and punished severely.

Again, if what Fauci said in 2017 (there will be a surprise outbreak of a serious infectious disease) failed to get anyone’s attention in the current administration, someone needs to resign for failing to do due diligence. Fauci, while not a presidential appointee, should have been “encouraged” to give up his position at the NIH.

It would seem the only way Fauci could have known what to expect for 2020 in 2017, was to have been receiving information on development progress of what became Covid-19. There may be another explanation, but given the information before me today, it seems unlikely.

 

CAVEAT In the U.S. a person is considered innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law. While the information above is damming, is is so far not proven.

BERNIE SANDERS, who by his own admission is a Democrat Socialist — more leftist Democrat or Socialist? — is being taken to task by Republicans for stating a fact: Fidel Castro made education a focal point of his regime.

Although I am not a fan of Sen. Sanders, what he said about Castro is true.

Sen. Sanders, to the best of my knowledge, never said Castro was a nice guy or that his government was good to, or for, the Cuban people.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO FIND SOMETHING positive to say about almost anyone.

Tomás de Torquemada, Hitler, and Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer are notable exceptions to that generality.

It may not be popular among Democrats, but President Trump HAS improved the economy and HAS reduced unemployment and HAS brought back jobs to the U.S.

It may not be popular among Republicans, but ex-president Obama DID push through a health plan and DID bring about the destabilizing Arab Spring that toppled governments throughout the Middle East.

 

Gray (grey) areas

Rarely is anyone 100 percent this or 100% that.

There always are “exceptions to the rule” that muddy our perceptions.

Given the reality of this, why are we so quick to condemn someone who even suggests that someone might have a redeeming feature?

In Israel, there are many who claim that all “Palestinians” just want to murder Israelis. Yet, during forest fire season, “Palestinians” help Israelis put out fires. It doesn’t make the headlines, but it happens. On the other side of the coin, there are “Palestinians” who are taught all Israelis are monsters, when in reality many “Palestinian” lives are saved in Israeli hospitals.

Since, unlike the “Palestinians,” Israelis include Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others, equating “Israelis” only with “Jews” is not accurate.

 

Sensationalizing the norm

The media, left, right, and in between, seems to have slipped from reporting the facts sans emotion to sensationalizing almost everything.

It IS what is said — written — and HOW it is written that determines how a reasonable reader responds.

I doubt any internet gazetteer can write a “straight” news story sans hyperbole. The “right” is no better or worse than the “left.” There seems to be no “middle” when it comes to politics. Even this blog if given a close read will show a slight bias.

Perhaps we have become accustomed to what used to be called “tabloid headlines.” Not necessary accurate, but bound to get the potential reader’s attention. Most of us get our “news” from tv that mimics the tabloids.

 

Half truths

Worse, by far, than tabloid headlines are one-sided reports. Half truths are no better than full lies.

The headline may be 100 percent accurate, but what is missing is WHY the cops fired their guns.

Even in the “old days” of real newspapers where headline writers were limited by available space, good editors demanded honest headlines.

As a newspaper man I used to break my head getting headlines to fit AND be complete. I loved the challenge.

We are cursed with poorly written biased headlines and poorly written biased “news” copy.

We are left with half-truths and distortions of facts.

Fidel Castro WAS a dictator who owed the U.S. for its help over-throwing the Batista regime. (So much for “influencing elections.”)

John Kennedy put an embargo in place to prevent importation of Cuban products … AFTER he laid in a large supply of his favorite Cuban cigars.

There used to be a radio program featuring Paul Harvey (right). Mr. Harvey always ended the program with the comment “Now you know (pause) the rest of the story.

Sen., Sanders was correct in his statement about Castro. A good reporter should have dug a little bit to find out what else the senator said about the despot. That would have provided a complete story to make Paul Harvey proud.

THE MEDIA AND DEMOCRATS in Congress are proving they missed out on Vocabulary 101 in elementary (a/k/a primary) school.

For example: Anyone who says anything about a “person of color” is a racist.

I was mugged.

The police ask me to describe the attacker.

I cannot.

If I report that I was attacked by a man, that is sexist, so I cannot use that descriptive.

If I report that I was attacked by a “person of color” (e.g., anyone other than a Caucasian) that’s racist. (Could I tell the Oriental cop that a “person of color” came to my aid? Or is that, too, racist?)

Define “racist.”

THERE IS NO question that the president is “thin skinned” and that his tweets are, more often than not, a knee-jerk reaction to taunts from Democrats still smarting from Hillary’s defeat.

But “racist”?

True he suggested that at least four of his tormentors should go “back where they came from.” One of his loudest detractors was rescued by America from civil strife in Somalia; the remaining three members of “The Squad” are U.S. citizens by birth, but they should be removed from the House and sent back to their congressional districts as simple citizens.

These women, calling them “ladies” is more than I can manage, have abused the office in most unladylike terms — at least in language that this geezer find inappropriate. So much for the “gentler sex.”

Or is that sexist?

The president might be labeled “xenophobic,” but given how he treats legally admitted foreigners and people from different cultures — he manages to deal with North Korea’s dictator — and finally strangers. According to the Dictionary.com² as shown in the following image.

 



 

The president seems to do well with leaders from many countries. So far I have not heard of him inviting someone to a state dinner and then not showing (a la Obama and Netanyahu).

If I am not mistaken, the current Mrs. Trump is a naturalized American.

With the exception of the negative Washington Post that headlined What Trump has not done for African-Americans and Hispanics, most web sites credit the president for doing a good job for blacks — hardly the mark of a racist.

I was unable to read the WashPost article so my assumption is based on the headline. Sites that acknowledge Trump’s efforts include

There is no argument that the president has tried, and been repeatedly thwarted by Democrats in the House, to reduce the influx of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. from Mexico (and points south).

It is worth noting that Trump’s predecessor gave Mexico US$75 million to help it control illegal immigration from countries to Mexico’s south. No complaints from the media or Congress for that use of taxpayer dollars.⁶

It is my opinion that in conjunction with that the Feds ought to crack down on the people hiring the illegals at sub-standard wages. Make hiring an illegal alien an offense with real teeth — $10,000 fines per illegal AND no less than 90 days at the country farm (jail where inmates are expected to work). Failure to provide an I-9 form for each employee already is a Federal crime with stiff penalties.⁷

Between what Trump has done for blacks and the reason behind the clamp down on illegal aliens, it is hard to charge the president with either racism or xenophobia.

Anti-Muslim?

That also “doesn’t wash.”

He DID try to restrict unlimited access of all citizens from seven predominately Muslim countries. He did try to insist on strict vetting of these citizens. (His predecessor had put similar vetting requirements in place, but no one complained.)

There are 50 Muslim dominated countries around the globe.⁸ Trump was concerned with only seven.

Unlike Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Trump has NOT refused sanctuary to any Muslims who might be headed to a death camp⁹

While Trump HAS put illegals in camps, FDR put American citizens into concentration camps. Who ordered the current separation of families is open to debate; it should not have happened, but when children are sent into a country illegally or abandoned by their parents, what are the options?

 

Trump’s biggest problem is finding someone to rein in his tweeting. His reaction to the Democrats’ constant baiting only encourages additional attacks.

Restraint on the president’s part will gain respect both for the man and the office while showing the ignorance of his attackers.

Opuscula Politicians Need to put America first

HAVING WATCHED TOO MUCH OF the Brett Kavanaugh dog and pony show I came to the conclusion that America needs law makers of both parties to “put America First.”

Not the President Trump “America First,” but the real thing – to do what is best for America regardless of party affiliation.

I’VE SEEN A NUMBER of elections, both in the U.S. and elsewhere, but I cannot recall ever seeing one that ended up so dividing a nation.

I blame America’s current condition on both Hillary Clinton and her cronies, and Donald Trump and his knee-jerk tweets.

I’ll ignore the numerous scandals attached to Mrs. Clinton and focus on the election results.

She conceded but never congratulated Trump on the victory; she encouraged her followers to riot and destroy on her behalf.

In every other election in which I voted, and that’s more than a few, the loser congratulates the winner and encourages his or her followers to work with the winner. Not only did Mrs. Clinton NOT do that, she encouraged anarchy.

Mr. Trump is not better.

Even though he let Mrs. Clinton “off the hook” for numerous possible crimes – emails, Benghazi to name but two – he has used Twitter as his main weapon from a bully pulpit. His tweets frequently – all too frequently – have been knee-jerk reactions, often incorrect, and just plain uncivilized; hardly worthy of America’s president.

As their “leaders” go, so go the followers – the Democrat and Republican politicians.

There ARE exceptions, but they are few and far between.

There ARE a few reasoned heads in both parties, but they are a very small minority.

Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford

As President Nixon would say, “Let me be perfectly clear,” I do NOT condone sexual assault. I was offended as much by Wm. Jefferson Clinton’s under-the-desk escapade with an underling as I was by his disregard for “that woman”; not even dignifying Ms. Lewinsky by calling her by name.

I believe the only decent president we’ve had in my lifetime was Harry S Truman. No scandal – certainly no sexual scandal -- was attached to his political career. There may be others similarly free of sexual pecados, but the list of presidents who “behaved badly” is long.

I have to wonder – and I’ve heard the stories – why it took Mrs. Ford 38 years to come forward with her claim. Her “coming out” to Dianne Feinstein late in the vetting process – and Sen. Feinstein’s releasing the letter at the last minute suggests a witch hunt.

Kavanaugh claims the Ford-Feinstein charge is fabricated. Other than “he said-she said” claims, was there ANY “suitable for a courtroom” evidence submitted?

Sen. Jeff Flake called for a brief, focused FBI investigation in an effort to bring the nation together. He noted in front of the cameras that the nation has been divided by the Kavanaugh hearing and other events and needs to heal. Flake is a Democrat.

The FBI already has performed a background investigation of the Supreme Court nominee. If it found anything, it would be reported to the nominating committee.

Sen. Flake wants to re-open the background inquisition and told the cameras he will ask President Trump to order the FBI to do a “brief and focused” (re-)investigation.

In my opinion, President Trump would be foolish to deny the senator’s request. It’s a matter of “image,” both his and Kavanaugh’s.

The episode should NOT be a Democrat vs. Republican or even a female vs. male issue, although it seems to boil down to those two warring factions – or perhaps the media is fomenting the war between the sexes.

When I was much younger I was a print reporter and editor. Even then some media made the news rather than reported the news. Now, I’m glad I no longer am associated with the media.

NO MATTER WHAT PRESIDENT TRUMP DOES or does not do, the Democrats find fault.

There is a suspicion that when there’s nothing to embarrass the president, they invent something.

Politics as usual?

THERE IS NO QUESTION that the president’s tweets and speeches strongly encouraged North Korea’s Kim to meet with newly confirmed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Likewise, there should be no doubt that the president’s “bellicose” comments had the desired effect on Mr. Kim.

North Korea’s leader

• Released three Korean-Americans to the custody of Secretary of State Pompeo.
• Has agreed to a face-to-face meeting with President Trump
• Is alleged to have agreed to stop missile testing and to denuclearize North Korea (with the caveat that the entire peninsula is nuclear free).

Did Mr. Kim agree to any of that during the Obama administration’s eight years?

For all that, Sen. Schumer (D-NY), the Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) of the Senate, are unable to choke pout an “At’ta boy” for the president’s accomplishment.

What Schumer DID tell sundry media friends was:

• Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says he's glad to see three detained Americans returning home from North Korea. At the same time, he is warning the Trump administration not to use Americans being held abroad as bargaining chips in negotiations.
  

  The New York Democrat says he hopes President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are clear in their talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and other countries that "no regime has the right to hold Americans in captivity without cause."
  

  He added that "under no circumstances should Americans be viewed as bargaining chips."
  

  Schumer made the remarks Wednesday in the Senate.¹

• On Capitol Hill, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer celebrated the detainees’ return but warned that “we’ll see many more hostages” if the administration provides an incentive for imprisoning Americans.
  

  “We are happy they’ve returned, but North Korea shouldn’t gain by taking Americans and then releasing them,” he said.²

• Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Wednesday that he was "delighted" that three Americans are being released by North Korea but warned the Trump administration against linking the individuals to broader negotiations.
  

  "We cannot forget: No regime has the right to hold American citizens in captivity without cause, and under no circumstances should American citizens be viewed as bargaining chips," Schumer said on the Senate floor. ³

"Chuck” also managed air time on CBS News⁴ where he complained about Trump talking with Japan’s leadership before talking to South Korea’s government. Schumer went on to tell the CBS interviewer that we have to tell the Chinese to “put the wood” to Korea.

I wonder what Schumer would have said if President Trump told an interviewer that “we” need to tell China to “put the wood” to North Korea. How loudly would Nancy wail? Oh my.

Schumer is quoted (ibid) stating “No regime has the right to hold American citizens in captivity without cause, and under no circumstances should American citizens be viewed as bargaining chips,"

I’m not certain what the senator means by “right to hold American citizens in captivity without cause.”

The senator’s quote continues “under no circumstances should American citizens be viewed as bargaining chips."

I CAN HEAR ALL MY LEFTIST acquaintances saying “Woe to us, the world is coming to an end because Trump threatened North Korea and Iran.”

PRESIDENT Trump — and like it or not, he IS POTUS — said to the UN what he’s been saying to Americans, and anyone else who cared to listen, that we will not be cowed any longer by rogue nations and nation want-to-be’s (e.g., Daesh, Taliban).

The U.S., once a leader of the “free world,” has for several presidencies fallen from that lofty position to that of, as China’s leaders once opined, a “paper tiger.”

Is President Trump doing something new, unheard of?

Hardly.

If a bully — be the bully be in a school yard or sitting in a seat at the (dis)United Nations — threatens, act to thwart the threat and to convince the bully that threats bring retribution.

The Republican Roosevelt (Theodore) sent the Great White Fleet¹ around the globe from December, 1907, to February, 1909, to impress others of America’s power. It never fired a shot in anger, but it did convince other nations that the U.S. was serious about protecting its shores. Unfortunately, it did not prevent Germany and Austria-Hungry from attacking Serbia in 1914, kicking off World War 1.². After the war, American President Woodrow Wilson managed to convince a number of nations to form the League of Nations, an unsuccessful forerunner to the (equally unsuccessful) United Nations.

No credit given

President Trump’s version of the “Great White Fleet” is a mix of sea and air power and land-based ICBMs; the president’s threat that the U.S. can “totally destroy” North Korea to the “missile man” (Kim) is well within America’s capability.

HOWEVER, at the same time, the president, in his maiden UN appearance, commended China and Russia for attempting to convince Kim to tone down his rhetoric and belligerent behavior. President Trump did NOT tell the UN assembly that the U.S. would “totally destroy” North Korea; only that it could. One letter (“w” vs. “c”) makes a major difference.

The president’s exact words, according to the Washington Post³, no particular friend of POTUS, were: ”“The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.” Trump added, “If the righteous many do not confront the wicked few, then evil will triumph.”

Hopefully, Kim will take the president seriously and, finding a way to save face (the [pick-an-ally] made me do it), rejoin the society of nations. He has, after all, proven North Korea can make bombs and that North Korea can build delivery platforms. Iran is in a similar situation and needs to consider that the U.S. could “totally destroy” it, too. Again, it’s allies — primarily Russia — can greatly influence the ayatollahs and imams to take a more civilized position.)

Nations the U.S. has saved — some several times — have been thumbing their noses at America’s do nothing presidents. Unfortunately for President Trump, he may have to make good on his word regarding North Korea (or Iran, which ever comes first). Also “unfortunately,” President Trump has said — promised — some things he has been unable to deliver, e.g., a better-than-Obamacare health plan than has support across the aisle, the stop infiltrators fence at Mexico’s northern border (ex-president Obama already paid for a wall across Mexico’s southern border — no help for the U.S. and another hit on the U.S. taxpayers’ pocket). To be fair, the decline in American prestige began long before Obama (Bush 1 and his incomplete Iraq incursion and Bush 2 with his “we have won in Iraq” foot-in-mouth fiasco quickly come to mind).

The problem, and there always is a problem, is that there is a reasonable certainty that not everyone in North Korea — or Iran — is behind their self-proclaimed glorious leaders. Destroying either country would cause the deaths of many who want regime change. Unless the U.S. has a popular leader to fill the void left by Kim’s or the ayatollah’s demise — and their sycophants who cling to their leaders’ skirts, nothing will be gained as proven in Iraq. This has been a frequent failure for American governments (the Bushs’ Iraq, Obama’s “Arab Spring” are cases in point.)

During World War 2, the Japanese considered their emperor a god; Japan’s population suffered greatly and many willingly died for him, but it wasn’t until the events at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in which thousands of civilians died or were injured, that Japan sued for peace.

The question: Will Kim and the ayatollah sacrifice their people for their personal glory?

Granted, “collateral damage” is a consequence of any war, particularly a war fought remotely (with missiles fired from ships or planes). If nuclear weapons are involved, and both Kim and the ayatollah assure the world they WILL use their nukes — the former on America and the latter on all “infidels,” starting with Israel, will the U.S. (and Israel) respond in kind?

There is no guarantee that attacking North Korea won’t cause Iran to fire its missiles at anything within range — including nearby U.S. ships.

President Trump may have been less than “politically correct” in telling Kim and the ayatollah that the U.S. will not be bullied.

A word about his “America First” statement. The full statement reveals that he said he believes in America First, and that the leaders of ALL the nations represented at the UN also should put their countries first; it’s a leader’ obligation to put his or her country’s interests above those of other nations. It does NOT mean brow-beating other nations; it does NOT mean ignoring other nation’s plights, but it DOES means that the incumbent will consider America’s needs — including freedom from fear of North Korean or Iran nukes — ahead of trying to appease megalomaniacs.

Perhaps my leftist acquaintances are uneasy with his speech, but they at least can rest easy that any threat from North Korea or Iran will be dealt with harshly so they can continue to try to undermine the elected government.

I HAVE TO WONDER ABOUT Democrat mentality.

When Trump took office he did two things:

One, he told the fibbies to lay off Hillary and her illegal email servers

Two, he fired Obama appointee flip-flopping fibbie director James Comey

Actually, there was one other “first days” action that riled the Democrats: Trump fired U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. Bharara, thumbing his nose at long-established protocol, refused to submit his resignation when the new president took office as all presidential appointees who serve at the president’s pleasure are expected to do. (This rolls downhill all the way to the municipal level. Usually the resignations are refused, but the formality remains.)

Now, whatever Trump – or his supporters – do is a grievous sin to be headlined in the media. Good grief, if Ivanka Trump stands in the same way the former first lady stood, that’s worthy of media contempt.

I’m not a “Trump can do no wrong” person; he can, and has, and assuredly will do things to which I take exception.

His knee-jerk reaction tweets (that seem to be more thoughtful lately)

His push to replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act without input from (a) Democrats who might have some good ideas – assuming they can actually think without attacking, and (b) the people who use the Affordable Care Act: patients and practitioners. I suppose he also must kowtow to the courts that seem to be making America’s laws.

The PROBLEM with replacing the Affordable Care Act is that Americans quickly became accustomed to the benefits. Once a benefit program is in place, it is very hard to cancel or modify.

Social Security, which the former president raped along with Medicare, was supposed to be “phased out” and replaced with – what?

We did not always have Social Security, the Railroad Retirement, of even the Federal employees’ retirement plan, (FERS) and when it was instituted – when Eleanor Roosevelt was first lady – it was not intended as a retirement fund. It became a retirement fund – for which I am grateful – but that was not its intent. Still, akin to Medicare, every working American paid into Social Security, sometimes willingly, sometimes not. How much depended on how much the covered American made; how much a covered American receives in his or her dotage depends on what they paid in. (There was a period when employers rewarded their loyal employees with pensions, but most pensions are gone now.)

There also was a time when employers funded the majority of the employees’ health and medical insurance – that was a time when insurance was more reasonably priced. Insurance is a business, lest we forget, and the cost of getting sick has risen greatly – faster than inflation.

I am not writing that “all Democrats are dummies and all Republicans are brilliant.” That is absurd. There ARE Democrats who should be tossed out on their ears and there are Republicans who should end up with them.

Trump and the GOP in congress should write off the “media” and focus on the jobs at hand – and that means working with the Democrats who use their brains. A better-than-Obamacare plan is possible, but it must be crafted with input from the Democrats and the end users – both patients and practitioners. A good start would be to force all those in government — elected and appointed — to depend on Obamacare and its replacement; THEN improvements would be made in short order.

While they are at it, those in Congress should vote to convert their Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) to Social Security.

Back to Hillary and her illegal server

When, shortly after Mrs. Clinton conceded the election, Trump said he would, as president, order the Justice Department not to pursue allegations that Mrs. Clinton violated a number of Federal laws when, as Secretary of State, she sent and received emails – some at least “sensitive” and bearing on national security – via her personal and private server, and there was no farther discussion of her role in the deaths of four Americans at the Benghazi consulate in Libya during a well-planned “spontaneous” uprising. Nor did Trump ask the fibbies to investigate the defeated candidate over her incendiary post-election comments that urged her followers to hit the streets; some of her fans making their point by destroying their own neighborhoods in Hillary’s name.

Interestingly, no Democrats objected to Trump’s decisions regarding Mrs. Clinton and there were no riots in the streets.

The media made little mention of Mrs. Clinton’s illegal and improper behavior, and quickly moved onto “Dump Trump” news as soon as the pressure on Mrs. Clinton was removed.

Almost everything the president or his associates – or even his family – do is scrutinized by the media in an effort to find fault. When there is no fault to be found, the media invents it – hence “fake news.”

TO BE FAIR, lately some “journalists” have been caught writing news they want to be heard/read, regardless of its veracity. A few have been fired. More interesting, some cartoonists – editorial and otherwise – are, it seems, trying to be more balanced; to admit maybe Trump has his moments. (I have no problems with editorials and cartoons that attack issues regardless of the party behind the issue.)

President Trump and his associates are fair game for criticism, but the media should treat all politicians – regardless of party – equally. So far, the media has been strictly in “Attack the President” mode.

Mrs. Clinton lost the election. Although Obama assured Americans that he could win, like FDR, a third and maybe a fourth term in the White House, the country was spared that threat.

The U.S. suffered through eight years of Obama; it can suffer through 4 to 8 years of Trump. Perhaps by then, the pendulum swinging from far left to far right will have settled someplace near the middle and we can elect people who will listen to the opposition and make – or unmake – laws that benefit all Americans, laws that won’t automatically be struck down by the courts.

Or perhaps that’s just wishful thinking.

Opuscula Et tu, Dilbert?

I FOLLOW SCOTT ADAM’S DILBERT as closely as a leftist follows Garry Trudeau’s Doonesbury. I don’t always agree with Adams, but more often than not.

But this morning I noticed that Dilbert’s creator has fallen into the journalistic muck of “embellishing” the news.

Yesterday (2-27-2017), Adams had one person complaining to the Pointy Headed Boss — PHB — that she couldn’t work with the Wally character because “his political views are abhorrent.”

Today (2-18-2017) Adams has the PHB tell Wally that “your political opinions are making your co-workers uncomfortable.”

Excuse me.

Yesterday, ONE person complained, saying Wally’s political views are “abhorrent.” To my Edward Bear mind, “abhorrent” is somewhat more forceful than “uncomfortable.”

But what caught my attention first was the PHB telling Wally that his political opinions are making Wally’s co-workers — note the plural — uncomfortable.

When did ONE complainant morph into many? Are they amoeba that replicate themselves? Or has Adams been caught up in “media speak,” where accuracy is irrelevant.

ON THE TOPIC OF MEDIA, Matt Lauer interviewed Speaker of the House Paul Ryan today. Aside from often interrupting Ryan in mid-sentence — Ryan mostly ignored the disruptive tactic — the tv “personality” jumped on a quote by President Trump who, Lauer said, opined that the health care issue was extremely complicated.

Duh.

Lauer’s point was that Trump is not a health care expert and therefore should not have promised to – leftists, pay attention — REPLACE Obamacare with something “better.”

Ryan calmly pointed out that Trump is the nation’s Chief Executive Officer, CEO, and as most successful CEOs do, he is surrounding himself with people who ARE experts in their fields. Ryan cited several Trump appointees as examples of good CEOmanship. The interviewer had no on-air response.

Presidents should not be expected to experts in all things. Only a fool would try to be all things to all people, and only a fool would expect a president to rule sans advisors.

Harry S was correct — as he often was —“the buck stops” at the president’s desk, but the presidential decision has to be made on the basis of “expert” opinions. People may — and often do — disagree on a person’s expertise, but other than a tv “personality,” most don’t expect the president to be an expert at all things.

I’ll settle for a president who — like Harry S — will own up to his actions.

Medical care IS a complicated issue. So is government in general.

Does Lauer think that the president should be an expert in air traffic control? Trump does, after all, own a plane. Should he be an expert in banking? Trump has been working with banks to finance his developments for decades. Should Trump be an expert in media? He’s doing pretty good (“C+”) with getting his points to the people — albeit sometimes seemingly in “knee-jerk reaction mode.” Big business is similar to big government; business managers who think they know it all and try to micro-manage the organization soon will find that their “big business” isn’t so big anymore. Smart managers, such as Trump, surround themselves with the best people for the jobs at hand.

Too bad it took Ryan to point this out — on air — to the tv “personality.” But then, the “news according to Matt Lauer” always is an exercise in interviewee restraint.

Can we hope that Trump’s Obamacare REPLACEMENT will be transparent; that Congress will have time to review and critique the REPLACEMENT plan, unlike when Trump’s predecessor rammed his 2,700 page “plan” through Congress too fast for review.

MAYBE IT’S MY IMAGINATION (it isn’t) but the liberal media — “liberal” and “media” seem to have become redundant — blames everything on America’s new president.

The cartoonists, like the media in which they appear, apparently are like two of the three famous monkeys: they can neither see (read) nor hear, preferring to ignore the whole while focusing on selected parts, e.g., Trump will cancel Obamacare (selected part) and REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING BETTER (ignored.)

But one cartoonist, Jennifer Babcock, seems to something positive about Trump’s presidency despite the liberals’ doom and gloom attitude.

After too many years of self-serving Obama, a 140-character statement would be welcome. Unfortunately, Trump already knows how to “string” 140-character statements together. (How does he avoid fat-finger typos?)

With the tv talking heads focusing more on the deaf and blind — or perhaps simply illiterate — protestors rather than the election winners, and while the Dumb-ocrats in Congress are stalling Trump’s nominees — knowing that in most cases, the GOP majority will approve them anyway (the exception being Marco Rubio, still miffed at losing the primary to a person voters considered the better candidate), the swearing in is left in the wings as a second thought.

Trump repeatedly said, but apparently the Dumb-ocrats and media failed to get the message, that he wants to be a president for all Americans; he wants to being the country together. Toward that end, more than 60 Dumb-ocrats in Congress — in s showing of their pettiness worthy of only a 6-year-old — are boycotting the inauguration. Hillary, however, will be front, if not center, at the event and all liberal eyes assuredly will be on her.

The boycotters all have excellent reasons for their action — or inaction. As an example, Rep. Karen Bass (Calif.) made her decision after conducting a Twitter poll ! on whether or not she should attend the inauguration. Her Congressional district includes many neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles. The district also encompasses Culver City as well as the unincorporated communities of View Park and Ladera Heights. (I doubt any Hollywood luminaries live in her district; in any case they probably left the U.S. by now, keeping THEIR promise.)

In this scrivener’s 74 years I have never seen behavior such as the liberals attacks on a president. Conservatives, many of whom held Obama in contempt, never treated him to the abuse the Dumb-ocrats are giving Trump; AND HE IS NOT EVEN BEEN IN OFFICE FOR A DAY. WHERE’S THE “HONEYMOON” that all new presidents have been allowed — until Trump.

The closest thing that comes to mind is the Dumb-ocrats attacks on their own president when Harry S Truman became president on his predecessor’s death. That, of course, was followed up by the Chicago Daily Tribune’s premature — and grossly inaccurate — headline

It turns out that Obama’s pre-D.C. hometown paper was not the only media outlet to make that, and a similar faux pas.

The Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, NY, not only had Dewey defeating Truman, but "by a landslide."

Topix Media, the Newsweek partner that produces Newsweek's special issues, decided to only ship the version reporting Clinton's victory, as that outcome seemed certain at the time, judging by the media and polls. The Germans also got ahead of themselves.

One left-of-center Israel newspaper was taking no chances; it printed a cover page with BOTH candidates as winners; rotate the tabloid page to the winner you want.

The media polls were inaccurate throughout the campaign — that’s easy enough to accomplish: carefully word the question and ask only selected people who are known to think as the pollster wants the poll to reflect — the “news” articles were biased throughout the campaign, and as Trump is about to take the oath of office, the media is focusing on the anti-Trump demonstrators at the expense of the people who support the new president.
